THEME FOR THE CONFERENCE

Here you have some points to discuss
Information Design: Seeding Knowledge, Breeding Competence, Cultivating Practice

In the information age scenario there are many questions raised about the usefulness of the information provided. In order to cultivate good approaches in designing better information products in local context it is required to address/understand the important aspects of local knowledge, competences and practices. The conference would offer a platform to collaborate and share the Information design ideas, approaches, methodologies within the sphere of local context.

There could be multiple contexts considering the local (context) as an anchor point zooming in (micro) and zooming out (macro)

1) Healthcare
2) Education
3) Environment
4) Sustainable living
5) Culture (food, beliefs etc..)
6) Ancient knowledge in recent context
7) Craft
8) public policy
9) Social Impact

Few issues to be reflected:
1.Why: who are going to benifit and in what manner
2. The Organizers:
3.Target audience
4. Experts
-----------------------
How:
1. Would it be only paper presentation and discusion?
2. To make it a mega event it could be preceeded/folowed by a workshop(s)
3. Do we call it a conference or symposium in that case?
-----------------------------------
Sponsors:
It should be sponsored by external agencies. No way should the Institute fund these type of mega events. NGO's, DST, CSIR, other private organizations could be approached.
---------------------------------------
Theme:
It could be broad:
1. Health- rural, urban,
a. Equipment
b.Hospital, HC
c.Health education

2. Transportation
a.rural
b.urban
c.motorized
d.non motorized
e.air
f.water
g.land

3. Education

a. Primary

b.Secondary

c. Physically challenged

d.Adult

4. Warnings and labels

10. Disaster(earth quake, flood etc)

12. Awareness

---------------------

The list can go on......

Overall it should be from a systems perspective. Man-Product - Context(Environment). Each is dependent on the other.

-------------------------------------

Experts: Success of a mega event like this is dependent on a balanced mix and match of experts from different domain.Similarly the participants should also be from different domain.I would suggest a very rough estimate of some do main:Apart from Info Designers

1. Fine Arts

2.Literature

3.Linguistics

4.Anthropology

5.Engineering

6.Medicine

7.Enterpreuner
